Operating as a detent shifter, it is incredibly user-friendly, mirroring the functionality of most OEM shifters. The absence of positive stops between gears or a reverse lockout feature simplifies the shifting process. Shifting out of Park involves lifting the handle and moving it back into Reverse, while shifting into forward gears requires moving the shifter rearward. Shifting back into Reverse from Neutral involves lifting the handle and moving the shifter forward, followed by lifting the handle to shift into Park.
Key features include a textured black mini console with a chrome top plate featuring an illuminated gear indicator. The polished aluminum shift stick, accompanied by a black T-handle knob and an accordion boot reminiscent of a manual 4-speed, imparts a classic muscle car look to your vehicle's interior. The shifter includes a lighted gear position indicator in the bezel, a micro-switch for back-up lights, and a neutral safety switch to prevent accidental starts when in gear. Caution: Similar to OEM shifters, the SportShifter lacks a positive reverse lockout feature, and without caution, accidental over-shifting into reverse gear while moving is possible.
