A clutch plate is a crucial component within a transmission, positioned among the pressure plate and flywheel. This circular plate features a friction-sensitive surface that enables it to grip. It resides next to the flywheel, connected to the driveshaft, initiating spin as soon as the engine starts, turning the crankshaft. When the clutch pedal is engaged, a system of springs and bearings pulls the pressure plate away from the flywheel, separating it from the clutch plate. Upon releasing the clutch pedal, the pressure plate is reengaged by the springs, pushing against the clutch plate and forcing the flywheel and clutch together.
Designed to handle varying force levels and offer different friction ranges based on materials and design, clutch plates are susceptible to failure due to excess heat. However, TCI® Frictions and Clutch Plates mitigate this risk with superior materials and engineering.
