When incorporating a crank trigger system, the use of locked-out timing can strain the starter and flywheel. Addressing this concern, the MSD Starter Saver, a compact controller, offers an automatic retard during cranking to alleviate pressure. With dimensions of only 1.5" x 3.5" x 2", this controller seamlessly integrates into your ignition system with just four wires. It can be programmed to retard the timing by 10° or 20° exclusively during cranking. The retard engages when the engine initiates cranking and disengages once the engine surpasses 800 rpm. (Reactivating if the engine rpm falls below 500 rpm.)
Trigger signals are received through an MSD Crank Trigger Pick-Up or the distributor's magnetic pick-up. The Starter Saver features a highly accurate pick-up compensation circuit, ensuring consistent timing across the entire rpm range. An LED indicator confirms operational status, and the circuitry is fully potted in a polyurethane compound for exceptional vibration resistance.
Note: The Starter Saver is applicable only to V8 applications utilizing an MSD magnetic pickup distributor or crank trigger.
