The Allison transmission is the heart of your L5P Duramax, responsible for transferring massive torque from your V8 diesel engine. This high level of torque generates significant heat, and if that heat isn’t properly managed, it can result in transmission damage. The stock transmission cooler works effectively, but only when the fluid is able to reach it.
The stock cooling system in the Allison 1000 transmission uses an in-line thermal bypass valve that regulates fluid flow to the cooler, keeping it from circulating until it reaches operating temperature. Unfortunately, this valve’s thermostat is prone to failure, which can stop fluid from reaching the cooler and cause the transmission to overheat. To fix this issue, Mishimoto has engineered a full-flow thermal bypass valve upgrade for your 2017+ Chevrolet/GMC 6.6L Duramax.
Our CNC-machined aluminum full-flow thermal bypass valve eliminates the internal thermostat, allowing transmission fluid to flow continuously to the cooler under all conditions. This design is ideal for drivers in warm climates, those who tow heavy loads, or anyone needing maximum cooling performance for their transmission. The Mishimoto valve is also designed with strategically machined internal passages for enhanced fluid flow over the stock valve, providing superior cooling efficiency. Additionally, cooling fins machined into the valve body help dissipate even more heat.
