Dial in your 1/28 scale racer's handling with this complete set of Kyosho Low Profile Slick Tires. Rubber compound and tire profile are the two most critical tuning elements on a Mini-Z. These specific tires feature a 30° Shore Rating and a Low Profile sidewall, making them a highly sought-after upgrade for serious track racers running on RCP (urethane) tracks or smooth, clean hardwood.
The "30 Degree" compound is on the softer side of the Kyosho spectrum. It provides excellent mechanical grip, while the "Low Profile" design prevents the tire from folding over onto its sidewall during hard, high-speed cornering. This combination dramatically reduces the dreaded "traction roll" that plagues stock Mini-Z setups.
Key Features
-
30° Soft Compound: Provides massive forward bite and high cornering speeds on smooth, high-traction surfaces.
-
Low Profile Design: Less rubber on the sidewall means less flex.
This delivers razor-sharp steering response and lowers the car's overall center of gravity (CG). -
Slick Tread: Maximizes the contact patch between the rubber and the track surface for ultimate grip (best used on clean, dust-free tracks).
-
Set of 4: Includes four identical narrow-width tires, giving you a full set to outfit your car or allowing you to experiment with different front/rear compound combinations.
Compatibility
-
Chassis: Fits virtually all 1/28 scale Kyosho Mini-Z platforms (MR-03, MR-04, MA-020, MA-030).
-
Wheels: Designed to fit standard Narrow (8.5mm) Mini-Z wheels.
-
Note: If you are running an LM (Le Mans) chassis or wide rear wheels (11mm), these narrow tires will only fit your front rims.
Tuning & Installation Advice
The "Tape & True" Method:
-
Double-Sided Tape is Mandatory: Because these tires generate so much grip, the rubber can actually spin on the plastic wheel during hard acceleration. You must use thin, double-sided Mini-Z tire tape between the wheel and the tire to lock them together.
-
Seating the Bead: Roll the tire firmly between your fingers after installing it on the wheel to ensure the inner bead is sitting perfectly flat in the rim's groove. A lopsided tire will cause the car to bounce at high speeds.
-
Break-In: Slick tires usually have a microscopic shiny mold-release layer from the factory. Run a few practice laps to scuff them up, or use a tire truer to shave the top layer off for instant maximum grip.
