Transmission bands play a crucial role in a transmission's functionality, serving as thin steel bands anchored to the transmission case to facilitate gear selection and action. Hydraulic transmission fluid is the driving force behind the activation of these bands, which are linked to servos. As torque converter pressure fills the servo mechanisms with hydraulic transmission fluid, the servos apply force against the bands, securing them around the transmission drums.
In this intricate process, flex bands come into play, establishing a connection between the transmission axle shaft and the transmission gears, allowing for gear action. Each transmission gear set corresponds to a set of transmission bands and drums, initiating the transmission gear action. When the fluid exits the servos, the bands disengage, and the entire process reverses.
TCI® offers High-Performance Flex Bands featuring band linings with a higher coefficient of friction, enhancing torque capacity and enabling quicker, more positive band engagement. Additionally, TCI® provides a line of bands known as "Powerbands™," incorporating the durable material Kevlar. These powerbands, up to 18% wider than OE bands, deliver increased torque capacity, resulting in more positive shifts and band application. The anchor area on these bands boasts extra-thick, heat-treated, high-carbon steel construction, eliminating the stretching and breakage often associated with stock bands. These bands are essential for street, towing, or competitive applications.
