The 6 BTM is the perfect ignition solution for engines equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger. Beyond benefiting from MSD's potent full power CD sparks, this ignition system features an adjustable boost/timing retard circuit designed to prevent detonation. When forced induction systems like turbos or blowers increase the air/fuel mixture in the engine, it elevates cylinder pressure within the combustion chamber, leading to a substantial power boost. However, this surge in power can also result in detonation, posing a risk of severe engine damage. The 6 BTM addresses this issue by allowing you to counteract detonation through timing retardation relative to the boost pressure.
A conveniently located control knob on the dashboard enables you to fine-tune the amount of timing retard, adjustable from 0 degrees per pound of boost to 3 degrees per pound (up to a maximum of 15 degrees). Additionally, the 6 BTM incorporates the Soft Touch Rev Control from the 6AL Ignition, providing overrev protection. Supplied with rubber shock mounts and RPM modules for 3,000, 6,000, 7,000, and 8,000 RPM, the 6 BTM offers a comprehensive ignition solution.
