The engineers at FAST™ sought inspiration from OEMs to determine their preference for rpm-measuring crank triggers suitable for 400 and 500 horsepower daily drivers. Traditionally, magnetic trigger wheels with bulky inductive pickups posed risks of broken or lost magnets at high engine rpm. FAST™ now offers an innovative solution—an advanced, magnet-free device. This new component features a wheel crafted from ASTM A36 grade steel, ensuring exceptional strength at a slim .125" thickness, making it virtually indestructible. Not only does the thin design reduce weight, but it also requires less space compared to competitors' aluminum versions. The inductive sensor from FAST™ is compact and hermetically sealed, with the connector molded into the body, further enhancing durability.
The crank trigger's dependability and accuracy stem from the innovative trigger wheel design. Instead of incorporating additional magnets, the wheel integrates tabs on the outer rim. As the wheel rotates, the inductive sensor measures these tabs, providing precise data to the fuel injection and ignition systems for accurate rpm measurement. The tabs being part of a single wheel unit eliminate the risk of loss or fragmentation associated with magnetic trigger wheels. This sensor, utilized by OEMs both on and inside the engine, ensures long-lasting, accurate timing. The installation process is straightforward, and all necessary components are included. For those already using the FAST™ XFI™ system, it's a plug-and-play unit. Moreover, it is compatible with many other EFI systems on the market.
