General Motors introduces the cutting-edge L94/L99 engines featuring Variable Valve Timing (VVT), a technology governed by cam phasers. These computer-controlled cam gears optimize camshaft timing based on engine rpm, with engine oil pressurized through passageways in the cylinder heads and cam. Controlled by engine computers, solenoids manage the oil flow, facilitating optimal cam retardation.
While VVT enhances fuel efficiency, it poses challenges for performance camshafts, limiting choices to smaller profiles with minimal overlap due to extensive valve timing movement. In response, COMP Cams® unveils the U.S. Patented GM L94/L99 Cam Phaser Limiter Kit. This valve train modification limits cam timing movement from 52° to 22°, ensuring ample valve clearance for aggressive hydraulic roller camshafts with tighter lobe separations. All this is achieved while retaining the advantages of GM VVT technology.
