TCI® Part #224000 - Set of (5) High-Performance Frictions for GM TH400 - Within a transmission, a clutch plate is one element in a series of discs positioned between the pressure plate and flywheel. This circular plate, featuring a friction-sensitive surface, grips the flywheel connected to the driveshaft. As the engine starts, the flywheel begins to spin, and when the clutch is engaged, the clutch plate moves away from the flywheel. This movement is facilitated by a system of springs and bearings pulling the pressure plate back. Upon releasing the clutch pedal, the pressure plate reengages, pushing against the clutch plate and forcing the flywheel and clutch together.

Designed to handle varying force levels and offer diverse friction ranges based on materials and design, a clutch plate can succumb to failure due to excess heat. However, TCI® Frictions or Clutch Plates, with their superior materials and engineering, are a preventative solution.
